Job Summary:
The Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring organizational compliance with all relevant environmental regulations and requirements. This role involves conducting thorough assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential environmental risks and develop strategies to mitigate them. The Environmental Compliance Specialist will collaborate with various stakeholders to develop and implement effective environmental compliance programs and policies.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct comprehensive environmental compliance assessments, audits, and inspections to identify potential risks, non-compliance issues, and areas for improvement.
2. Develop and implement environmental compliance programs, policies, and procedures to ensure adherence to all relevant environmental regulations, standards, and guidelines.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assess and mitigate potential environmental risks associated with operational activities, projects, and new initiatives.
4. Monitor and analyze regulatory changes and updates related to environmental compliance, ensuring that the organization remains up to date and in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations.
5. Provide guidance and support to internal stakeholders regarding environmental compliance requirements, ensuring awareness and understanding.
6. Conduct training sessions and workshops to enhance employee awareness of environmental compliance practices and requirements.
7. Participate in the development and implementation of environmental management systems, including monitoring, reporting, and documentation processes.
8. Coordinate with external agencies, auditors, and regulatory bodies to facilitate inspections, audits, and resolve compliance-related matters.
9. Investigate and respond to any environmental incidents or violations, including conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence.
10. Prepare and submit accurate and timely reports related to environmental compliance activities, including incident reports, compliance status reports, and regulatory submissions.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or a related field.
2. Proven experience of at least 3 years in environmental compliance, preferably in the chemical industry or a related field.
3. Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, standards, and guidelines, including but not limited to air quality, water quality, waste management, and hazardous materials.
4. Familiarity with relevant regulatory bodies and their requirements, such as the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
5. Experience conducting environmental compliance assessments, audits, and inspections, with the ability to identify and address non-compliance issues.
6. Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex environmental data and regulations.
7. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
8. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational and time management skills to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
9. Proficiency in using environmental compliance software and tools.
10. Professional certifications in environmental compliance or related fields are preferred.
